Director of Library and Academic Information Services

Introduction:
Sacred Heart School of Theology seeks to hire a Director of Library and Academic Information Services, a newly created full-time position with faculty status to start in Fall 2009.  Sacred Heart, in metropolitan Milwaukee, is the largest Roman Catholic seminary specializing in priestly formation of men from 30 to 60 years of age.

Position Summary:
Sacred Heart School of Theology has a strong commitment to establishing its library as the theological learning center in the greater Milwaukee area.  The successful candidate will possess the desire and ability to carry out this vision.  An ability to develop and implement effective strategic planning in concert with the institution’s vision and mission, establish budget priorities, and work effectively with diverse populations is a must.

Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Library Science is required and an additional graduate degree in theology or related field is preferred.  A successful candidate will have at least five years management experience within a college or university library and familiarity with current and emerging trends and technologies in college libraries and the classroom.

Assistant Director/Cataloger

United Theological Seminary (UTS), Dayton, OH  (posted 10/29/08)

Introduction
UTS, a free-standing seminary of the United Methodist Church, offers several Master’s Degrees (Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies and two Specialized Ministry degrees) and a Doctor of Ministry degree. The library serves the students and faculty, as well as community and partner patrons, with a substantial collection of  140,000+ book and journal volumes, electronic resources and the collection of the Center for the Evangelical United Brethren Heritage.

Position summary:
Assists the Director in the assessment and implementation of its changing educational and technological environment, responsible both for systems upgrades and possible catalog migration. As Cataloger, handles all areas of cataloging: edits copy cataloging, searches, edits and catalogs original materials for generation of MARC records, maintains OPAC.  Will work in cooperation with Instructional Technology and Information Technology. 

Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Master of Library Science
  • Additional Master’s Degree in an area of religion (Church History, Theology, Religious Studies) wanted, PhD. desired
  • Cataloging experience (thorough familiarity with OCLC and AACR2, some knowledge of EADS and Dublin Core helpful)
  • Knowledge and use of  Library computer systems
  • Ability to work with faculty, students, and diverse community
  • Ability to interface with Information Technology and Instructional Technology
  • Some German language reading skill; Greek and Hebrew recognition desired

Summary:
Provide leadership, coordination and administration to all library electronic service operations including web page design and maintenance, management of research databases; heavy participation in reference and instruction services; collection development activities; copyright education to the university.

The Columbia University Libraries invite nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Burke Library at Union Theological Seminary. 

Position Summary:
The Burke Library houses one of the most important theological library collections in North America covering the broad spectrum of theological disciplines and subject areas, including significant rare and archival collections. The Director guides collection development, oversees technical and user services operations, and provides dynamic leadership in shaping services and outreach to the Union scholarly community. In collaboration with instructional technology, preservation, and digital library program units, the Director expands access to and preservation of the library’s many unique materials in support of research, teaching, and learning. The Director manages an annual materials budget of $250,000 and a staff of 7.25 FTE along with seeking and directing various grant funded projects. Introduction :
The JKM Library of the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and McCormick Theological Seminary seeks a Systems and Catalog Librarian.

Position Summary:
The Systems and Catalog Librarian provides the visionary leadership for meta-data and e-resource technology at the JKM Library. As such, the Systems Librarian manages the JKM on-line environment, including but not limited to its OPAC and related modules, on-line databases, website and web based services; and participates in cataloging projects, particularly retrospective conversion, weeding and merging of holdings.

Qualifications:

  • M.L.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Demonstrated eagerness to experiment with position parameters and organizational structure out of commitment to the JKM mission
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library systems technology and understanding of trends and issues in academic librarianship
  • Knowledge of MARC format, AACRII and OCLC rules, other library database standards, and experience in cataloging
  • Strong service orientation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand interlocking systemic issues within an academic environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collegially with library and institutional colleagues and with students in a culturally and theological diverse setting

Digital Project Librarian

The Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame seeks applicants for the position of Digital Project Librarian. This position will support the creation, maintenance, and implementation of a portal application providing access to rare, unique, and infrequently held materials in academic libraries, seminaries' special collections, and archives. Position Summary:
The successful candidate will initially be appointed for a two year term with every expectation that the position will become ongoing. The individual will be housed in the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department and administratively report to the Head of the Department. Activities include:

  • writing documentation
  • planning implementation
  • communicating project activities
  • training and instructing
  • serving as a member of Team Catholic Portal

Qualifications:
ALA-accredited master's degree in library, archival and/or information science, or appropriate equivalent. Knowledge of metadata and archival encoding standards, including but not limited to EAD, MARC, XML, and Dublin Core. Analytical and organizational skills such as meeting deadlines, setting priorities, etc. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and train others is critical. An understanding of the importance of rare and archival special collections is desirable.

Evidence of critical thinking and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Salary & Benefits:
The Digital Project Librarian will be appointed as visiting faculty.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications with a minimum salary of $40,000. A benefits package including paid holidays and 20 vacation days will be offered.

Public Services Librarian

The Concordia University library is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Public Services Librarian.

Position Summary:
The Public Services Librarian is responsible for the operation of the library Circulation Desk and related functions including training and supervising student employees, library reserves, overdues, and processing library materials.  The position is also responsible for library instructions, Reference, and promoting library resources

The public Services Librarian must also be willing to work irregular hours including some night and weekend shifts. 

Qualifications:
