ATLA is a professional association of libraries and librarians who specialize in theology and religious studies or who have an interest in the bibliography and literature of religion. Founded in 1946 as a scholarly, ecumenical, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing and supporting theological librarianship and research in religion, ATLA holds an annual conference, publishes its proceedings and a quarterly newsletter, produces electronic databases and print products to support research in religion, and supports preservation of printed materials in religion. ATLA's mission is to foster the study of theology and religion by enhancing the development of theological and religious libraries, librarianship, and bibliography.
